Belgravia Leisure’s commitment to access and inclusion is outlined in the “5 Year Access & Inclusion Plan.” One of the strategic priorities is to have an Inclusion Coordinator in place in every year-round operating venue by 31 December 2020.
We know that staff are the key enablers to support a safe and inclusive environment at our venues and we understand that to help improve staff confidence and capacity to welcome support and include people of diversity (people with a disability, people of cultural and linguistic diversity, LGBTI+ community, youth, older adults, women or any group that is under-represented in our communities) we need to provide them with support, resources and tools to be successful.
The Inclusion Coordinator acts as a bridge between the community and our venues. Using their skills in the community engagement/consultation approach we can ensure we have a greater understanding of the community’s unique needs and current gaps in programming/services/facilities.
Venue Managers who currently operate a venue without an Inclusion Coordinator must nominate a team member to fill the position by 06 November 2020.
- Please do so by accessing the live working document on the Access & Inclusion SharePoint here.
Once the new Inclusion Coordinators have been determined, National Disability & Diversity Manager, Dr Jeff Walkley and National Access & Inclusion Coordinator, Emma Lowe, will deliver group inductions and orientations over the months of November and December.
These sessions will provide the new Inclusion Coordinator with a scope of the role, a deeper understanding of what access and inclusion means to Belgravia Leisure. As well as provide tools and resources to improve their confidence and capacity in supporting the diverse communities in which we operate.
