Workplace Health and Safety is a focus every day at Belgravia Leisure, however, we pay particular attention to safety during the month of April to ensure we live our “Think Safe, Act Safe, Be Safe” mantra.
This April, we want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of reporting safety incidents to your manager and into B-Connected, as they occur. Additionally, our team must also investigate the incident and take action to prevent reoccurrence in the future.
At Belgravia Leisure, incident reporting must be reported to your line manager and entered into B-Connected (accessed through MyBelgravia or the Intranet).
Safety incident reporting is essential for the following four reasons:
- It helps prevent reoccurrences
Even the “minor” incidents count. Reporting the seemingly minor incidents, it increases the likelihood that repeating failures will be noticed and corrected before they develop into more serious ones.
2. Provides greater understanding of safety risks
If more incidents are reported, the safety team, management and Belgravia Leisure are able to gain greater awareness of safety risks. Allowing the team to draw insights that can help reduce or eliminate incident reoccurrence. The data can be used for comparisons between organisations, industries, geographical locations, and countries.
3. Creates lessons learned within our organisation and the industry
The information gathered from the reports can be shared across other venues or even the entire leisure industry to promote better safety systems.
4. Creates a safety-minded culture
By ensuring that incidents are reported AND managed through B-Connected, data will be used to prioritise intervention, ensure support and change hazardous work tasks. Team members will see that these reports are acted upon by Belgravia Leisure, which creates a culture of improvement that can be created with two-way communication and everyone being part of the process.
This initial incident report will prompt an investigation which is the important bit! Incidents need to be investigated; otherwise, how can we be sure that measures have been taken to avoid reoccurrence?
Typically, the more serious the incident the more in-depth incident investigation is required. It is a requirement that each and every Belgravia Leisure team member takes a proactive approach to incident reporting and investigation when requested.
Belgravia Group Health & Safety Manager, Liz van Deventer says, “Properly reporting and investigating safety incidents may seem time-consuming in the short term, but is the only way to effectively manage the risk and avoid reoccurrence – allowing you to get back to bringing leisure to life.”
