Hilarie Legg started working with Belgravia Leisure in November 2021 and says some of her magic moments have been working closely with the access and inclusion team.
“Working with the access and inclusion team is something I have not experienced in roles previous to Belgravia Leisure so it’s exciting to see these partnerships and projects come to life.
How have you been impacted by COVID-19 & what have you learned?
“Personally, COVID has taught me to stay even calmer than I usually am, to make sure I was reassuring my team. I did not want my team to see me stressed or panicked, so they did not reflect that in their work or on our patrons. My workload increased significantly but it taught me other skills in roles that I wouldn’t usually spend long periods of time on.
“Throughout COVID I have learned that my team can be extremely resilient. My team were happy to change between roles and do tasks that are not usually in their day-to-day operations. Our venue is still recovering and I feel we need to keep reassuring our patrons and providing them with the tools they need to feel comfortable and safe. For example, a spray and wipe on every machine in the gym, staff regularly cleaning high, touchpoint areas etc.”
What is your favourite thing about your career?
“There are so many things! I love my job, it teaches me something new every day. It challenges me, I am doing what I love which is managing a team, working with great people in our community and helping others be better in themselves.”
Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
“I would be happy in two roles. In three years I see myself still working with Belgravia Leisure. I would look at managing a different venue if the opportunity should arise, just to have the experience under my belt. In five years, I am working to take on a bigger role within the Belgravia Leisure company and would be proud to work as an Area Manager, State Manager or in an Operations Manager role.”
What are 3 things you’re most passionate about in life and why?
- My family, they are my everything.
- My health, your health is your wealth.
- Kindness, I don’t know how or why people can be mean.
What does Workplace Health & Safety mean to you?
“Workplace Health and Safety means preventing accidents or issues from occurring so that all staff and patrons have a safe and happy work and leisure space.”
