Belgravia Leisure has appointed Aylie Spence as Area Manager to manage a growing portfolio of three aquatic and leisure venues for the Manningham and Whittlesea councils.
Aylie has worked with Belgravia Leisure for over ten years and first started in the leisure industry as a lifeguard while in high school. Aylie has worked in several roles including duty manager, in operations, customer service and managing an outdoor pool while studying at University. Aylie’s most significant appointment yet is to Area Manager after managing Manningham Council’s landmark aquatic and leisure facility, Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Aylie was excited about her successful appointment to Area Manager and explained how after applying twice for the Area Manager position, she finally succeeded by filling gaps in her skill set, “One item of feedback I had been provided with in the past was to improve my networking skills.”
“Since receiving this feedback I have made an effort to make the most of networking opportunities, particularly with contract partners. This has included attending things like local Women in Business luncheons and Mayoral Balls. Through attending events like this I have been able to connect with many groups and organisations who we are now able to work with.”
Aylie’s strong leadership saw the team at Aquarena win the 2019 Health Club of the Year Award and the 2019 Health & Safety Award. Aylie was also nominated for the 2020 Empowered Women Awards.
Over the last two years as Aquarena’s Centre Manager, Aylie has demonstrated strong leadership abilities and a commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable and accessible leisure services to the local community.
With a passion for transitions, Aylie has used her time during the COVID period to embark on furthering her education by studying a Graduate Certificate in Management (Workplace Transformation).
Aylie is looking forward to partnering with local councils and their communities to support their health and wellbeing goals and recreation strategies and says, “I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role as it gives me the opportunity to contribute more broadly to our organisation and bringing our programs and services to more communities.”
“I’ve been lucky enough to develop some fantastic relationships with Manningham Council over the past two years. I’m looking forward to developing further relationships with the Whittlesea community as we operate Whittlesea Swim Centre this summer and Mill Park Leisure when it opens in early 2021,” Aylie concluded.
Our employees have access to an extensive range of career opportunities and progression at any of our family-friendly venues with the chance to make a difference in their community, just like we have seen Aylie achieve.
