Scott Vanderheyden has been a valuable member of the Belgravia Leisure team for over six years, working his way up from the Venue Manager of the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre to his most recent role as the Area Manager for South West NSW. We are proud to announce that Scott is taking on a new challenge of joining the Aquatic Operations Leadership Group as the National Aquatic Safety Manager.
Scott’s journey with Belgravia Leisure began in May 2017 when he was recruited as the Venue Manager of the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre. After a year in the role, he was promoted to Area Operations Manager and took on the challenge of managing multiple venues across the City of Sydney.
In 2019, Scott moved to the Liverpool contract as the Workplace Health and Safety Project Manager, where he worked on improving workplace safety and aquatic supervision.
Later that year, Scott was successful in obtaining the Area Manager role for the Liverpool contract, and in 2020, he expanded his responsibilities to include Auburn Ruth Everuss. In February 2021, he took on the Wentworthville contract without a tender or external process, and in 2022 was instrumental in the tender success and transition into Wollondilly Leisure Centre and Warragamba Swimming Pool and retender win at Manning Aquatic Centre Bathurst. His success in managing these contracts and his passion for aquatic safety and supervision led him to his new role as the National Aquatic Safety Manager.
Belgravia Group Health and Safety Manager Liz Van Deventer said, “Scott’s journey with Belgravia Leisure is a testament to the company’s commitment to developing and promoting its people. From starting as a casual lifeguard almost 20 years ago to taking on a national leadership role, Scott has demonstrated a strong work ethic, a passion for safety, and a willingness to learn and grow.
“In his new role, Scott will be responsible for overseeing the safety and supervision of all aquatic venues under Belgravia Leisure’s management across Australia and New Zealand. He will work closely with the Aquatic Operations Leadership Group to develop and implement best practices in aquatic safety, staff training, and customer service.
“Scott’s passion for people and his team is evident in the success he has achieved in his previous roles. He is committed to developing and promoting his team members, ensuring they have the right skills and support to succeed in their roles,” Liz explained.
Scott credits his team’s success to their collaboration and shared vision for the region, and he is excited to bring this collaborative approach to his new role. Scott said, “I am extremely excited to step into this newly created role to have an organisational and industry impact in aquatic safety. This is such an important area of our business, and I am looking forward to identifying opportunities to ensure our venues are implementing best practice systems and processes to increase the effectiveness of our hard-working lifeguards.”
At Belgravia Leisure, we are thrilled to have Scott as our new National Aquatic Safety Manager. We are confident that his passion for safety, his leadership skills, and his commitment to developing his team will make a significant impact on the safety and enjoyment of our aquatic venues.
Congratulations, Scott, on this new chapter in your career with Belgravia Leisure!
