Belgravia Leisure considers workplace health and safety one of its highest priorities. In October, Safe Work Australia aims to raise awareness around Workplace Health and Safety through National Safe Work Month and this year’s theme is Work Health and Safety through COVID-19.
What is National Safe Work Month?
Since 2009, Safe Work Australia has raised awareness of Workplace Health and Safety in the month of October. Last year in Australia, Safe Work Australia preliminary data shows that around 180 people died while doing their job, while around 107,000 people made a worker’s compensation claim for serious injury or illness in 2017-2018 (Safe Work Australia).
No one should feel unsafe at work, and it is unacceptable for injury or death to happen at the workplace. During National Safe Work Month, Belgravia Leisure aims to bring awareness to the importance of workplace health and safety at the organisation.
Workplace Health and Safety Through COVID-19
2020 has been one of the most challenging years in recent memory. Here at Belgravia, we have had to quickly adapt to government regulations and physical isolation, placing significant mental strain on employees. With the health and safety of our team members as the highest priority, we have also had to adapt practices and procedures to reduce risk of COVID-19 infection.
This National Safe Work Month, we aim to highlight the WHS challenges and positive outcomes, and the significant role that Workplace Health and Safety can play in reducing the risk of mental and physical harm from COVID-19.
