Mornington Peninsula Shire has announced the successful renewal of its management contract with Belgravia Leisure for five Mornington Peninsula Leisure Centres.
Belgravia Leisure will continue the successful management of year-round aquatic venues Yawa Aquatic Centre and Pelican Park Recreation Centre, as well as seasonal aquatic venue Crib Point Pool. Somerville Recreation Centre and Civic Reserve Recreation Centre also fall under the management contract which has been extended for the minimum of four years.
Belgravia Leisure commenced the partnership with Mornington Peninsula Shire in 2017 and has maintained a strong community presence in the Mornington Peninsula region ever since.
A testament to this commitment was the 2024 launch of the Mornington Peninsula Water Safety Alliance, created by the local Belgravia Leisure team in response to the area’s concerning drowning rates.
Further strengthening its commitment to water safety, the team also recently welcomed Bondi Rescue star and Float to Survive advocate Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins on site to share the all-important Float to Survive message.
The local teams have also achieved many other significant milestones, including Yawa Aquatic Centre being named Community Facility of the Year at the 2022 Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence. More recently, Yawa was recognised for its team’s swift response in saving the life of a patron experiencing a medical emergency.
In 2022, Yawa Aquatic Centre also earned Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV’s) prized Platinum Pool award recognising the highest standard in aquatic safety and risk management.
Pelican Park also won Facility of the Year Award – Medium Venue at the 2023 ARV awards, with Yawa picking up a Healthy Choices Award and Marketing and Communications Award on the same night. The local team remain passionate about continuing health and wellbeing services for the local community whilst Pelican Park undertakes a six-month refurbishment through the creation and operation of the pop-up facilities in Hastings and Crib Point.
Belgravia Leisure CEO Nick Cox expressed pride in the organisation’s continued partnership with Mornington Peninsula Shire.
“I’m incredibly proud of the teams on site who have achieved so much in the seven years of managing these venues. From introducing inclusive initiatives such as a low sensory hour and the Cerge app, right through to winning multiple awards and proactively addressing community issues related to drowning, it’s an absolute pleasure to see these Mornington Peninsula venues thrive.
“We remain committed to improving the health, fitness, and social outcomes of the Mornington Peninsula community, and we sincerely thank Mornington Peninsula Shire for their ongoing trust in us,” concluded Nick.
