Carol has been with Belgravia Leisure for almost five years in the Momentum Coordinator role and says, “I have been working with older adults in the fitness industry for more than 40 years.
“I love working with older adults and have worked with thousands of participants to help and encourage them to use exercise as a way to build strength, confidence, and vitality, which is all so important to maintain as we age.
“I have a passion for seeing older adults reaching their potential, and educating others on how they can support and encourage older adults towards that goal. I teach everything from freestyle aerobics, aqua, circuit, step, mobility, and chair-based classes.
“I have mentored many instructors over the years and continue to do so, and this will guarantee we will have highly qualified older adult instructors in the years to come. I plan to continue instructing and mentoring for the foreseeable future,” Carol said.
What are some of your highlights of working with Belgravia Leisure?
“I have continued to watch the Momentum program grow to be the largest in Australia, and even with the devastation of COVID, I plan to continue to grow it back larger than ever.
“Meeting many fitness professionals who have different thinking to mine has been challenging but I love working with community organisations and council to provide the best health programs for our community,” Carol said.
What is your favourite and least favourite thing about your career?
“My favourite thing is meeting and engaging with people and my least favourite thing is paperwork or administration,” Carol said.
Where do you see yourself in the next three to five years?
“Continuing to instruct and mentor instructors,” Carol said.
What are three things you’re most passionate about in life and why?
“Faith, I like to encourage people to have a spiritual life. Exercise, I have been instructing exercise for over 55 years and have an even stronger passion today than ever before. Family, relationship with family and passing on caring and love, are so important for future generations,” Carol said.
“I would like to encourage anyone who reads this and would like one of the most rewarding careers possible, to consider qualifying in instructing older adult exercise classes. You will never get a more down-to-earth, caring group of people that are so appreciative of the time and effort the instructor puts into teaching them their exercise.
