Congratulations Alexia!
Alexia Morgan, Group Manager of Business Improvement at Belgravia Leisure, was recently awarded a life membership of Aquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) for her contribution to the industry.
Having served 13 years on the board of ARV and with over 25 years of recreation and leisure industry experience gained in local government, commercial, education, and the not-for-profit sector, Alexia was a deserving recipient.
Having been responsible for sustainability and environmental management at Belgravia Leisure for the past six years, Alexia has worked hard to put the organisation ahead of the competition and believes that sustainability done right isn’t expensive and, in fact, is more cost-effective in the long run. Alexia is also a member of the Corporate Environmental and Sustainability Managers Group (CESMG), which she has found to be a great way to network and receive insights into how top-tier organisations implement sustainability initiatives and reporting.
Alexia drives Belgravia Leisure’s five-year sustainability plan and helps support the contract partner’s own environmental objectives and targets. Recently, Alexia led a project which saw solar panels installed at Belgravia Leisure’s headquarters in Bayswater, Melbourne, which now provides 71% of the building’s electricity each month. Alexia was also instrumental in working towards Carbon Neutral certification at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre and in Belgravia Leisure being recognised for Sport and Climate Change at the Australian Sport, Recreation and Play Innovation Awards in July 2022.
Belgravia Leisure’s commitment
Recognising the importance of preserving our natural environment is of fundamental importance at Belgravia Leisure, and we also understand that being environmentally responsible makes good business sense.
In a sign that Belgravia Leisure is fully committed to its environmental vision and its people, the organisation is currently funding a Master of Environment and Sustainability (MES) at Monash University for Alexia, allowing her the flexibility to complete her course whilst continuing to be an environmental warrior at work. The course is designed to meet the growing need for skilled professionals that have competencies in both business and environmental / sustainability management and who understand the nexus between the two.
Alexia currently has a Bachelor of Biological Science (1991) and an MBA (2007), and a certificate IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability (2020), however with sustainability becoming more complex and increasingly critical, it is important that as industry leaders, Belgravia Leisure continues to invest in its people, so they have the tools to make a real difference in this space.
