For over 100 years, men and women across Victoria have participated in Golf Australia’s Pennant events. The 2022 season tee’d off in February with a strong team from Yarrambat Park Golf Course comprising of team members Brock Gillard, Aaron Attwell, Jas Kooner, Matthew Allen, Darren Kershaw, Daniel Saykan, Jamie Watson and Alex Rachkovski.
Golf Australia’s Pennant competition comprises seven players from both male and female Pennant teams who represent their individual clubs across an eight week season (including finals). Team Manager, Jason Mullin, brought the team together as it’s a significant way to bring members and the community together. The support of the Pennant team is overwhelming with the local community supporting every shot.
Experiencing many of Victoria’s great local courses from Werribee Park, Mandalay Golf Course, Cheltenham, Bacchus Marsh, Melton Valley, and of course the team’s home ground Yarrambat Park Golf Course, PGA Professional Aaron Attwell said, “Playing each week against different opponents at different courses with varying conditions is a challenge but when we are on our home ground, we have the course advantage as we know the course so well. Cheltenham Golf Course was the greatest challenge for the team with precise shots on its tricky layout.”
Aaron continued to say, “The greatest highlight of the 2022 season was being undefeated and being promoted to Division 5 for the 2023 season. This is a great accomplishment for the team as a whole and it sets a new target for us going into the 2023 season. Playing with colleagues and members is a really great way to bring the club together. It’s a fantastic place to work and representing them in pennant is always a privilege and really fun!”
