If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Wishy Murimba, you know that she is a beacon of enthusiasm dedicated to helping others in her role.
Wishy has been a Community Engagement Coordinator at Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre in New South Wales for the last year and a half.
“As someone who thrives on curiosity, I’m always exploring new ideas and perspectives,” Wishy said. Her love for learning extends beyond the workplace, from delving into books to expressing herself through writing, music and fitness. At the core of Wishy’s endeavours is her commitment to making a positive impact in her community.
Wishy leads a range of initiatives aimed at fostering community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles ensuring no one misses out. From organising water safety workshops, open days and family fun days, to developing inclusive aquatic programs for individuals with disabilities.
Wishy ensures that everyone feels welcome and supported and has the opportunity to enjoy the water in a safe and supportive environment.
“Whether it’s through my work, volunteering or simply lending a listening ear to friends and family — witnessing the growth and achievements of people, regardless of age or ability, fuels my passion for helping others and making a positive impact in my community.”
Wishy and the team at Liverpool’s dedication to inclusivity and community empowerment was recognised with the Social Impact Award at the 2023 ARI NSW Awards of Excellence.
This award further affirms the profound impact of their work on the lives of countless community members through their programs and facilities.
Wishy recently took the stage at Belgravia Foundation’s 2024 Inspiration Breakfast to showcase the impactful work she and her team are undertaking in Liverpool.
“The community that I serve is a low socio-economic area and it’s crucial that the programs I develop ensure everyone has equal access to our facilities and programs,” she said.
Wishy highlighted their approach to program development, stating, “Before we develop a program, we sit down with stakeholders to understand their needs. We listen to what they need and craft the program accordingly.” Hear more insights from Wishy in the video below.

Her ambition is matched only by her commitment to continuous learning and creative expression. Whether through her work, personal pursuits, or community engagement, Wishy is dedicated to making a meaningful impact and inspiring positive change.
“Ultimately, I hope to expand my skills and expertise in areas such as program development, community engagement and leadership, through further education and training opportunities.
“I will always aim to make an impact in my community and contribute to positive change in the lives of others,” Wishy concluded.
