Keilor East Leisure Centre hosted the launch of the 2024 VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to water safety. The launch celebrated the continued success of VICSWIM, a program that has been shaping water safety and building confidence in Victorians since its inception in 1976.
On Thursday, November 23rd, the venue welcomed esteemed guests, including Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence MP, Deputy Premier Mr Ben Carroll MP, CEO Kathy Parton and the team from Aquatics & Recreation Victoria.
Additionally, Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Pierce Tyson, Councillors Samantha Byrne, John Sipek and Ava Adams, representatives from Moonee Valley City Council and Belgravia Leisure joined the event to support and celebrate the program launch, promising a summer of fun, learning and water safety for everyone.
Reflecting on the program’s popularity, the 2023 launch saw a staggering 10,000 enrolments within the first hour, underscoring the growing demand for water safety education.
Kathy Parton, Aquatics and Recreation Victoria CEO highlighted the inclusivity of the VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program, saying, “The VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program is available to all Victorian children aged four to 12 years. Our amazing swim teachers will operate in local venues across the state to enable all participants to increase water safety knowledge and swimming skills.”
Registrations for the 2024 VICSWIM program open on Wednesday, November 29th, at 10:00 am. Priced at $35 per child per week, the VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program offers an opportunity for families to equip their children with crucial water safety skills.
Ros Spence Minister for Community Sport, said, “Summer in Victoria means fun by the water – and this cost-saving program ensures kids from all backgrounds across our state get their chance to learn the water safety skills needed to have fun in and around the water. The importance of water safety knowledge and swimming skills cannot be overestimated – we encourage all families to sign up their kids and take advantage of the week-long program.”
Ben Carroll, Member for Niddrie, echoed the sentiment, expressing support for the VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program. “We’re proud to continue supporting the much-loved VICSWIM Summer Kidz Program – giving kids the confidence and safety awareness they need for a lifetime of fun by our beaches, rivers, lakes and swimming pools.”
