When Colin walked into Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre for his first Exercise Physiology appointment after experiencing a stroke, he admits he was nervous about what to expect.
More than 200 visits later, he continues to show up, embracing new challenges and remaining committed to his Exercise Physiology journey at Gurri Wanyarra.
Working with Exercise Physiologist Liam Rea and the wider team, Colin has participated in a tailored exercise program designed to support his individual needs and goals.
“I was very nervous about coming in for my first appointment, to be honest, but the expertise at Gurri made me feel very comfortable. By the end of the session, I was looking forward to coming back,” Colin said.
Liam said Exercise Physiology can play an important role in helping people stay engaged in regular movement through tailored, evidence-based exercise programs.
“Every client is different and so we develop unique treatment plans to help our clients achieve their goals and while managing their individual needs,” Liam said.
“For Colin, that has involved a variety of exercises that challenge coordination, balance and movement patterns while helping keep him motivated and engaged in the process.

“Reaching more than 200 sessions is a fantastic achievement and reflects Colin’s commitment and consistency over time. It’s been rewarding for our team to support him on that journey and see him continue to embrace new challenges and stay engaged with his program,” Liam concluded.
Colin explained how some aspects of the program have been more challenging than others, including exercises involving mirrors and coordination. However, that’s also one of the things he values most, that every session continues to provide a new challenge.
“One of the things I’m most confident about now is my balance,” Colin said.
“Every time I come in for a session, nothing’s identical and the team aren’t pushing me beyond my limits, but encouraging me to work at my limits, which gives me more confidence and more ability to try and do more things in my day-to-day life.”
