The wait is over! SWELL Palmerston’s fully refurbished health club is about to open its doors to the public this Saturday 18th May.
After much anticipation, the Palmerston community will be able to experience SWELL Health Club’s upgraded and state-of-the-art facilities from this weekend onward. The SWELL Health Club offers a versatile and all-encompassing training environment including brand new cardio and weights equipment.
The refurbishment of the health club is the final step in the City of Palmerston’s largest infrastructure project to date which has seen the aging venue transformed into an inclusive and contemporary wellness and leisure hub with something for everyone.
The community have already been enjoying a new 20m warm water pool for learn to swim and wellness classes, a refurbished 50m pool for swim fanatics, a new and improved zero-depth splash and play space for the little ones, and an adventure play zone unlike any other in the Top End, which officially opened in December 2023.
In addition to the aquatics and health club upgrades, other upgraded facilities at the SWELL precinct include an events area, a basketball half-court, new and improved accessible toilets and change rooms, energy efficient, modern pool plant and equipment and shade features and the re-roofing of the gym and youth drop-in centre.
Tumama Reea, Venue Manager, is thrilled that the community can now enjoy all that SWELL has to offer.
“As the only local community leisure centre in the area, we have a responsibility here at SWELL to ensure that the residents of Palmerston have every opportunity to stay on top of their health and fitness goals.
“Whether this be in or outside of a gym, we recommend that each of us should be exercising for 30 minutes, five times a week.
“We are really proud of the new facilities here at SWELL Palmerston and I encourage everyone to come down and enjoy all it has to offer – not only will members receive three one-on-one consultations with our qualified team to best kick-off their fitness journey, but they’ll also benefit with free access to the all-new aquatic facilities such as our pools and courts for even more health benefits and results,” concluded Tumama.
The project is funded by the Australian Government, with $5 million secured through the Building Better Regions Fund, as well as the Northern Territory Government contributing $7.5 million and City of Palmerston contributing $6.9 million.
