Sport in our community is an essential component of the lives of children, young people, adults and seniors. By connecting with sporting groups, our communities have many opportunities to increase their individual health and wellbeing by becoming active and connecting with others. The benefits of sport for an individual increases positivity in physical activity, mental health, socialisation and cultural awareness.
Venue Manager of Keilor Public Golf Course, Jack McDonald, has developed an initiative to connect with sport’s clubs across the local government area of Brimbank, where club members receive access to the golf course and practice facilities and in return, support their club by way of sponsorship from Keilor Public Golf Course.
Jack says, “Brimbank Sport’s Club Membership is a terrific initiative to form connections with sporting clubs within our own community. We have identified that many participants in sport within the Brimbank Council LGA, are playing golf socially at the course.
“The membership provides golfers with an opportunity to access a discounted membership, which supports their club in the process. This provides financial support to local clubs to assist them in providing greater opportunities for physical activity in the local community.”
Community sports clubs support the wider community through the creation and delivery of community health outcomes. Keilor Public Golf Course prides itself on being a part of these outcomes with its program offerings and increased awareness of health benefits to sport. As golf continues to provide positive outcomes through social benefits and physical activity, the venue is leading the way in ensuring a sustainable promotion of health within Brimbank and its community.
