On Saturday the 1st of October, Franklin Pool and Leisure in Pukekohe, New Zealand, hosted its first Belgravia Foundation fund-raising event raising funds to help enrol more tamariki (children) in swimming lessons.
As the weather starts to warm up, learning to swim and be safe around water could save a life. Since the government-mandated closures of swim schools and swimming pools, millions of swimming lessons have been missed.
Learning to swim is a skill for life and is more important than ever.
The team at Franklin said the fund-raising event was a fun netball tournament that brought the wider communities whanau together to raise money to enrol tamariki (children) from 6-months-old pepi (babies), to 5-year-olds tamariki, in swimming lessons regardless of ability, culture, or financial ability.
Cindy Stewart, Access and Inclusion Coordinator at Franklin said, “Everyone in attendance enjoyed the high energy and vibes of the fun and fast-paced games. It was a collective effort from our communities, local business and our Franklin team, making it the event such a successful day for all involved.”
