It’s quite fitting that during Earth Week 2024, with the theme of ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, our very own eco-warrior Alexia Morgan won the inaugural SEAChanger Individual Leadership Award for her dedication to sustainability.
The 2024 SEAChanger Awards, presented by the Sports Environment Alliance, took place at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on April 17th, during Earth Week from April 16th to Earth Day on April 22nd. The Sports Environment Alliance, a non-profit organisation, aims to lead, educate and empower the sports community to drive initiatives toward a sustainable and regenerative future.
Alexia, Belgravia Leisure’s Group Manager of Business Improvement, drives our environmental endeavours. Her achievements include spearheading initiatives that led to ISO 14001 certification in Environmental Management Systems and carbon-neutral certification for Ascot Vale Leisure Centre under the Climate Active Services standard.
Under Alexia’s initiatives, the carbon emissions from electricity at Belgravia Leisure’s head office in Bayswater have been reduced by 45% through several energy efficiencies and the installation of solar panels.
Alexia also spearheaded the establishment of the ‘Green Team,’ a selection of over 50 members dedicated to cultivating a sustainability-focused culture across Belgravia Leisure’s venues. Alexia champions eco-friendly practices and advocates for reducing plastic waste.

Whether she’s sharing her expertise at industry events or judging sustainability awards, Alexia is working to inspire others to join her in the fight for a plastic-free future.
“Receiving the first inaugural SEAChanger Individual Leadership Award was unexpected, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see that my efforts are contributing to a healthier planet, particularly in our mission to reduce plastic waste,” Alexia said.
The preservation of our natural environment is fundamentally important to Belgravia Leisure management and staff. As we celebrate Earth Week 2024 and focus on ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, we congratulate Alexia for her deserving recognition.
In August 2019, Belgravia Leisure stopped the purchase and supply of plastic straws, plastic bags and plastic cutlery in all Belgravia Leisure managed venues across Australia and New Zealand.

Alexia said, “Belgravia Leisure saw the need to say no to problematic single-use plastics well ahead of the much-needed bans across Australia and New Zealand. We encourage other businesses to follow suit. It’s not only good for the environment, but it’s also good for business.”
