As a single leg amputee, Stephen was initially terrified to think about swimming. But a visit to Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex using the Cérge app has changed all of that, and he now regularly enjoys the health benefits that come with this exercise.
Belgravia Leisure, in partnership with app developer Cérge, reduces fear, anxiety and discrimination for people with disabilities. Cerge is a communications platform which provides personalised services to guests with a disability, including personalised greetings and tours, express check-ins or queue skipping. Cérge is able to support exceptional experiences, all whilst removing the guesswork for staff.
“Using Cérge to let staff know I was on my way and would like a tour of the facilities was helpful,” said Stephen. “I was able to explain my disability through the app which also meant I didn’t have to do the weird small talk about the elephant in the room”.
Stephen’s fears of swimming were not only due to the logistics of his physical differences, but also considering the cleanliness and hygiene of a swimming complex and exposing his leg to water.
“Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex facilities are up to date with many options available for mobility disabilities. The staff were excellent and made me feel welcome. They genuinely wanted to help and knew what I wanted. A game changer,” reflected Stephen.
The inclusion of Cerge at Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex means everyone can improve their health and wellbeing. Providing an experience for all which is safe and inclusive, is essential to ensuring the most vulnerable in our communities enjoy their health journey.
Belgravia Leisure and Cerge continue to connect people with disabilities, with plans to roll out the app at further venues across Australia and New Zealand. The app includes options to inform team members that a guest wants to ‘simply look around without communication’ or have their experience enhanced by specifying the exact needs of their visit.
“Cerge was able to tell Mackay Aquatic Recreation Complex exactly what I needed. Thank you for being a leading business by being more accessible and inclusive. It has made a difference to me”.
Belgravia Leisure strives to support all in the community to connect and benefit from the services, programs, employment and facilities it provides in Australia and New Zealand. Through participation in these experiences, all people are provided access to opportunities that can contribute to improved health and happiness, irrespective of any personal characteristic or circumstance.
