If you’ve been a Learn to Swim student at Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre over the last 30 years, chances are Christine has helped you gain confidence in the water. With three decades of teaching experience, she has been an integral part of the Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre team, guiding swimmers through Levels 4, 5 and 6, as well as a range of teen swim classes.
Christine’s dedication to swimming education and water safety has earned her well-deserved recognition, including being named a finalist for Swim Teacher of the Year at the 2024 Aquatic & Recreation Institute Awards.
Nicole Bain, Aquatics Manager at Auburn Ruth, said, “Christine is deeply committed to mentoring new instructors and fostering a supportive environment for trainees and students. Her impact extends far beyond the pool, she has helped shape the careers of many aspiring swim teachers”.
Hilly Kirca shared just how much Christine’s influence has meant to her stating, “Christine used to be my swim teacher back when I was a child and helped me move all the way up to Squads. Seventeen years later, she has inspired me to become a swim teacher and now I proudly work alongside the teacher who inspired me to swim”.
Taj Thorne also shared his appreciation for Christine’s teaching, stating, “Christine was a caring and skilled teacher that both my brothers and I were lucky to have as kids, pushing us to be the swimmers we are today. Working alongside Christine now, I have a deeper understanding of her knowledge and experience and I can see how she makes learning to swim so much fun for each and every student”.
Christine’s dedication over the past thirty years has made a lasting impact on the local community. Christine said, “This job of swim teaching is very rewarding and doesn’t really feel like a job. I really do get a lot of happiness from watching the children progress and learn to be safe in and around water”.
Nicole says, “Christine’s excellence is reflected in the initiatives she has introduced, from keeping teens engaged in fitness-based swim classes to inspiring thousands of young learners to begin their swimming journey.
“Her classes are among the most popular at our venue and her ability to connect with students of all ages ensures they not only develop essential water safety skills but also have a lifelong love for swimming. We’re extremely lucky to have her as part of our team,” Nicole concluded.
