On the 21st of March, the team at Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre celebrated Harmony Day. Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity – it’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Auburn Ruth Everuss’s Venue Manager, Liz Stranix, joined Belgravia Leisure’s CEO Nick Cox for our monthly internal live stream. Where they discussed Harmony Day, Liz explained “two of our coordinator team members, Georgie and Emma, took responsibility in organising and running the event.”
“Our team, members and guests are incredibly culturally diverse at our venue and within our community, so Harmony Day was the perfect way to celebrate. We celebrated with Harmony Day posters around the venue and dozens of flags from all around the world. Team members also wore orange Harmony day ribbons in the days leading up to the event.” Liz explained.
“A few days before the event, we posted photos of our culturally diverse staff to social media. We also sent out an email to RSVP members to our event. On the day, members and guests enjoyed all 120 sausages provided, and during an aqua class, three of our group fitness instructors got up on the pool deck and danced to Funky Town, which led to laugher and smiles around the venue,” Liz recalled fondly.
One team member and a friend sang and played the guitar while members and guests enjoyed all 120 sausages provided. All the money raised for this event went to groups who can’t afford swimming lessons.
