A select group of team members across Victorian Belgravia Leisure venues have been given the opportunity to build their leadership skills in the annual Emerging Leaders Program.
The 12-month program is designed to equip potential future leaders of the company with the tools and knowledge to step into management roles and sees the participants meet monthly at various Victorian venues to learn, connect and develop their leadership capabilities.
Traditionally aimed at Assistant Venue Managers, this year’s program has expanded to include a small number of newly appointed Venue Managers, along with an Operations Manager, to support their development and integration into the broader business.
The current cohort represents Victorian venues including Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre (TRAC), Higher State, Pelican Park Recreation Centre, Knox Leisureworks, Somerville Recreation Centre, WaterMarc, Keilor East Leisure Centre, Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, Mill Park Leisure and MARC Stadium.
The program is facilitated by Chris Worsnop, Senior Business Operations Manager VIC and Rachel Scott, Venue Manager at Knox. Throughout the year, participants also hear from subject matter experts and leaders from across the state who share best practice, operational insights and practical experiences from their own venues.
Topics covered in the program include budgeting, presentation skills and communication, Work Health and Safety (WHS) / ISO awareness and venue standards, systems, people and culture, community engagement and marketing, programming knowledge and key performance indicators and DISC profiling. Additional topics will be added along the way, such as the new HR Shared Services (HRSS) system following its launch.
Chris said the program has a strong track record of developing future leaders within Belgravia Leisure.
“We’ve seen fantastic success from this program over the years, with many past participants progressing into leadership positions across the business,” Chris said.
“The Emerging Leaders Program is about investing in our people and planting the seeds today for the leaders of tomorrow. Over the next 12 months, participants will strengthen their operational knowledge, build relationships across our network and develop the skills needed to lead with confidence.
“These team members have enormous potential and we’re excited to support their growth as future Venue Managers and leaders within Belgravia Leisure.”
For participants, the program provides a valuable opportunity to broaden their understanding of the business, learn from peers and experienced leaders and build the skills needed for future career progression.
