Marking its first anniversary since opening in August 2025, the Reformer Pilates studio at Copper Coast Sport and Leisure Centre has helped 10,000 of the community get active in its first year, achieving more than 48,000 minutes of movement across more than 1,000 classes.
The purpose-built, 12-bed studio now has more than 140 active members and continues to help participants of all ages, fitness levels and backgrounds improve their health and wellbeing.
Led by Group Fitness Coordinator Nicole Fergusson and a team of six instructors, the studio and its programs have been designed to make Reformer Pilates accessible, welcoming and inclusive for the diverse Copper Coast community.
Nicole said: “When we opened the studio, we wanted Reformer Pilates to feel like something everybody could be a part of – not something reserved for a particular age, gender or fitness level.
“We want everyone to feel confident giving Reformer Pilates a try.”
Building strength and connection in the community
Nicole continued that the studio’s first year has been one of continual growth, with programming evolving in response to community needs.
“I love that our studio has developed a loyal group of foundation members who have supported the program from its earliest days, as well as new and returning participants.”
Sue Richardson is the studio’s longest attending member. Sue said:
“The classes are fantastic. There is a real mix of ages, from teenagers through to older adults, beginners and regular attendees. Everyone feels welcome.”
Community member Sean Bauer has attended 152 classes, the highest attendance recorded at the studio to date.
“I love how I feel after coming to classes here,” Sean added.
“The instructors cater for complete beginners while still keeping classes engaging for more experienced participants.”
Supporting healthier communities
Victoria Goodwin-Barlow, Belgravia Group Health & Wellbeing Manager said the milestone reflects Belgravia Leisure’s wider goal of giving communities more ways to be active through inclusive spaces.
“Achieving a collective 48,000 minutes of movement in less than a year is a tremendous accomplishment and highlights the important role programs like Reformer Pilates can play in supporting community wellbeing.”
The studio currently offers a range of specialised classes, including Teen Reformer, Men’s Reformer and 50+ Reformer, helping make strength training, mobility and low-impact exercise accessible to more people across the Kadina community.
Nicole said the studio’s success belongs to the members who have helped shape its culture.
“We’ve learnt so much over the past 12 months and our members have grown right alongside us. They have created the supportive community that makes this studio what it is today.”
