Mitchell started his career with Belgravia Leisure in February of 2018. Mitchell says “Michael Mckay was the neighbour of a close friend. Michael managed Yarrambat at the time and was looking for workers. The next day I was standing behind the Pro Shop counter, serving coffees, beers and rounds to the public. I started as a Pro Shop attendant but always had my eyes on helping Michael manage the venue.
“12 months later I was promoted to Assistant Manager and was eager to soak up as much of Michael’s knowledge as possible. 12 months after that Michael moved to Business Development and I have been filling the role of Acting Centre Manager ever since.”
What are some of your highlights/magic moments working with Belgravia Leisure?
“Being a part of the development and delivery of the 18-Hole Mini Golf course project at Yarrambat and the Goanna Golf brand is a huge highlight for me. Bringing new demographics of people to golf has been a focus of mine, with another highlight of my time with Belgravia Leisure being the movie night events I’ve organised.
“Our biggest night saw 450 people from the local area come and experience the picturesque surroundings of Yarrambat. People who may not have known it was there previously, came to enjoy some family time at the Golf Course.”
How have you been impacted by COVID-19 & what have you learnt?
“The team has been incredible through COVID. Really pulling together and helping through difficult periods. We have learnt to be dynamic and to expect the unexpected. Things can change quite rapidly, and we are more prepared for the challenges each day can throw at us.”
What is your favourite thing about your career?
“Putting together a work crew that is professional who gets the job done and who are all great mates has been a personal highlight of mine. I have loved nurturing the talent of my staff members, helping them with their professional development and eventually seeing them progress with the company or fly the coup through to their career paths and goals.”
Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
“My first thought is on stage at Coachella but if that doesn’t work out, maybe I’ll be playing Melbourne’s Forum Theatre with my band, ‘Natural Appetites’.”
What are 3 things you’re most passionate about in life and why?
“Music. Skateboarding. Family. and Golf. The first two are my artistic, personal loves that will last with me for the rest of my life. Family is truly the most important thing to me.”
