Kris Miller is Belgravia Leisure’s General Manager of Operations for New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
Kris started his working career with Belgravia Leisure straight out of University, “My first role was at the Robinvale seasonal pool with the company that became Belgravia Leisure. I worked my way through a number of venues such as Springers, Melton Waves and Windy Hill over a nine-year period. After that, I left Belgravia Leisure for a while to work with Monash Council for eight years, to look after their leisure centres and everything sport and recreation.”
Kris says he’s now been back home for the past five years, “When I returned home to Belgravia Leisure, I started as the venue manager at WaterMarc. I then moved into the role of state manager and for the past couple of years, I’ve been working as the General Manager of Operations. I’ve had a lot of changes in my roles but I’ve only ever worked for two organisations.”
What are some of your magic moments working with Belgravia Leisure?
“Watching the growth of the organisation has been phenomenal. Not just in the number of venues we manage, but also in the improvement of systems and processes. We have so many different support teams helping us deliver programs and services onsite. We have come a long way, but there are so many exciting improvements still to come!”
How have you and your team been impacted by COVID and what have you learnt?
“There have been massive impacts from COVID across all of our venues, especially in Victoria and New South Wales. I’m not sure this is a learning, but it’s an incredibly challenging time to find employees at all levels. We have recently recruited some amazing area managers, however, we have a lot of spots to fill in all levels of management.
“Selfless plug but if you know anyone keen to work with Belgravia Leisure, feel free to email me at kmiller@belgravialeisure.com.au“
What is your favourite thing about your career?
“I should probably say working with my four regional managers but probably what I love most is the diversity of working in an organisation like Belgravia Leisure. I get to go to so many different places and work on so many different projects. The variety is what gets me out of bed.”
Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
“Hopefully busy transitioning into the next wave of Belgravia Leisure venues to come onboard. As well as being a part of the organisation that leads the digital transformation of the industries we work in being leisure, wellness and tourism.”
