Being an active member of her local community, Access and Inclusion Coordinator Fiona Powell will be celebrating nine years across three Belgravia Leisure venues this October. From Inglefarm Recreation Centre and Gardens Recreation Centre to Glanville and Valley View Golf Courses, Fiona’s journey has built social connections, friendships and professional development.  

“Working at Valley View Golf Course provided just the challenge I needed,” said Fiona. “By including my passion in all things access and inclusion, I love being a part of the community and what golf can offer.  

“Some used to say I was a workaholic with my background as a chef. I love working and I’m happily married where we just hit our big 30th Anniversary,” Fiona continued. “We have four boys, one of which is our family dog Buddy – who thinks he’s human. I enjoy four-wheel driving, especially in the wet muddy season. Camping, fishing and crafts are also my passions; as well as Starwars and spending time with friends.  

“The golf community is wonderful and I’ve made great friends. It’s a family atmosphere and Venue Manager, Jerry Goonting is great at supporting my ideas with opportunities to expand my growth in areas I am passionate about.  

“Our social groups bring people together from all walks of life. I have worked at developing a few events including a Star Wars Glow in the Dark night and Golf and Pup day.  

“My job is challenging and so rewarding. I love that I can help bring community to leisure and use our space to help people to feel included and connected. Specially, being there for people in need. 

“Watching and helping my Mum with Dementia and being a support for my Dad was a journey but I loved being a part of it. Helping people with health issues or disabilities or someone who has lost their partner or family, my heart is drawn to them.  

 “I believe that we can all have bad days but if we can just make one person smile or be there for them is everything.”
