From Lifeguard and Duty Manager in 2008 to Venue Manager of Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre and Fanny Durack Aquatic Centre, Alex Watt has supported Belgravia Leisure for the last 13 years in a range of different roles.
What are your highlights/magic moments working with Belgravia Leisure?
“Highlights during my time have included opportunities to work outside of the scope of my usual role including providing assistance to other sites. Being involved in transitions. Assisting in the opening of new sites especially SWIRL in Tasmania.”
As well as training and development opportunities such as the Belgravia Leadership College (BLC). I have also enjoyed being given opportunities to progress within the organisation, whether moving from a smaller venue to a larger one, into a different area of venue operations (Operations/Sales) or moving into a more senior position such as a Venue Manager role.” Alex explained.
Tell us about the People you work with
“I work with a great team at Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre and in the larger Southern NSW Region. I’m currently working under Area Manager Christian Wulff and Regional Manager Katherine Foreman.”
“Moving from Melbourne to Sydney in March 2020 it has been great to meet so many new people, firstly in Liverpool now in the Inner West and realise that Victorians and NS-Welshman aren’t so different after all. Prior to moving to Sydney I worked within the Moonee Valley contract for a number of years with Grant Connors and Kara Monaghan and was given the opportunity to manage a whole venue/team for the first time.” Alex said.
What is your favourite thing about your career?
“My favourite thing about my career is definitely the people I have met along the way. I get my motivation from the team that I work within and lead. Working across two states, eight venues and collaborating with plenty more I have got to know quite a few people across the business.” Alex explains.
What are three things you’re most passionate about in life and why?
“The things that I am most passionate about in life are music, food, friends and family. I am pretty social and find sharing food (whether going out or cooking at home) or music with people close to me really important.” Alex concluded.
