It was all smiles and sunshine recently at Fremantle Public Golf Course as young girls from across the area picked up their clubs and gave golf a go… many for the very first time.
As part of MyGolf Girls Month, a national initiative to introduce more girls to the game, the Fremantle venue hosted a FREE Come & Try Day, creating a fun, welcoming space for future golf stars to shine.
Led by Charlie Knoll, a seasoned professional with over fifteen years in the golf industry, and supported by Venue Manager and PGA Professional Keenan Baatjes, the event gave local girls the chance to experience golf in an inclusive and relaxed setting. From putting to full swings and everything in between, the session blended skill-building with fun games designed to keep the excitement high and the nerves low.
”Getting juniors started the right way is so important,” said Charlie. “It sets the tone for how they enjoy the game, make friends and build confidence…. on and off the course. Days like this are what it’s all about.”

The Fremantle session was just one of many that took place across the country throughout April as part of MyGolf Girls Month, an initiative celebrating one of Australia’s fastest-growing participation sports. With clubs nationwide opening their doors for girls to try the game for free, the movement is gaining momentum and making a big impact.
Belgravia Leisure the leisure management company behind nine golf courses across Australia including Fremantle Public Golf Course, is a business dedicated to including all in the game of golf. Earlier this year, Belgravia Leisure became just the second golf management company in the country to sign the R&A Women in Golf Charter.
With courses in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, this single signing has the potential to make a widespread impact on the Australian golf landscape by improving participation and leadership opportunities for women and girls, as well as maximising their potential at all levels of the sport.
And judging by the laughter echoing across the fairways at Fremantle, the future of girls’ golf is already looking bright.
