School holidays at South Australia’s Glanville and Valley View Golf Courses, managed by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, were a busy time of the year. With Come and Try Days for juniors and women of the local community.
Trying golf for the first time is an exciting experience. With the sport of golf becoming increasing popular with locals, the opportunity to offer a unique experience was welcomed by all.
With the support of an amazing team and the PGA Professional at Glanville and Valley View Golf Courses, participants were able to engage, learn and have fun on the greens and fairways.
The Come and Try programs aimed at juniors aged six to 15 years of age, included a range of skills and drills designed for participants to learn basic skills including full swing, pitching, chipping and putting.
With varying ages, abilities and experience levels, participants were encouraged by the coach whilst learning patience, perseverance and resilience. “Golf is a tough game to learn regardless of how old you are,” said Jerry Goonting, Venue Manager of Glanville and Valley View Golf Courses.
“Providing clinics for juniors is a great way to introduce them to the game in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The kids love being at the golf course and it was great to see familiar faces returning,” Mr Goonting said.
Women’s golf in the local community is also increasing in popularity and the Come and Try Day for female participants was also a huge success. “Enjoyment is crucial when learning a new physical activity but more importantly, it’s about connecting the community, making friends and starting a journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
“The great aspect about golf is that it is low impact sport and suitable for women of all ages and all abilities. Being out in the fresh air and sunshine helps with mental health and the game itself, helps to keep one’s mind active,” Mr Goonting said.
Glanville and Valley View Golf Courses are both focused on bringing the best out of their local community. “We strongly believe in providing activities and a community space which is inclusive for all. We strive to be the best we can in supporting all of our local residents and what they hope to achieve whilst working towards a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families,” Mr Goonting concluded.
