A community hub for the Wairarapa District, Trust House Recreation Centre has always been synonymous with community inclusivity and accessibility. Last October marked a significant milestone in its journey with the integration of Cérge, a digital concierge app.
This addition has seen a tangible shift in how the team serves its community, streamlining access and enhancing its interactions in ways previously unimagined.
During a family holiday across New Zealand, a Deaf traveler encountered the typical hurdles of inaccessible attractions. Yet, amidst these challenges, Trust House became a refreshing exception.
Notified in advance via the Cérge app about the guest’s needs, the team at Trust House sprang into action ready and willing to accommodate the guest’s requirements.
Upon arrival, the guest was greeted by Amy Farmer and Jorja Younger, who made efforts to facilitate communication through written notes and friendly gestures as requested.
“As soon as I arrived, I had two staff members give me the biggest waves and smiles. They made great eye contact with me as I asked questions about the pool, gym and sauna. Their enthusiasm to help was so appreciated,” the guest explained.
“I was given a note that mentioned prices and informed me that there was no visual fire alarm. However, the lifeguards were aware of me and a staff member would sign to me in case of a fire or emergency. This made me feel incredibly safe, considering my inability to hear alarms. Their attention to detail went above and beyond my expectations.”
Nikki Roud, Trust House Venue Manager, acknowledged the impact of Cérge on enhancing accessibility and a friendly approach that reflects Trust House’s dedication to addressing the needs of all guests, regardless of ability.
“Amy, Jorja and the entire team did an amazing job at the front desk, despite not knowing sign language. The team’s willingness to learn basic signs, like ‘fire’ and ‘exit,’ prompted us to consider further sign language training for our team.
“With Cérge, we can better assist guests with disabilities, including those with invisible conditions. We were thrilled to read this testimonial and look forward to continuing our efforts in creating inclusive environments for all members and guests,” Nikki said.
In a world where barriers often hinder access, Belgravia Leisure’s partnership with Cérge in providing inclusive communication platforms to our communities across Australia and now New Zealand is a significant step towards our mission of making leisure venues more inclusive and accessible for all.
Currently, more than 60 venues have Cérge installed, a number that continues to grow. Our goal is to implement Cérge in all year-round-operated venues, with plans to extend its installation to seasonal venues as well. As we anticipate the considerable benefits Cérge brings to our operations and venues, we aim to reach a total of approximately 190+ venues equipped with this innovative system.
