Celebrating Father’s Day this year might have been challenging for those of us in lockdown, but whether you spent it close or from afar, we hope you got the chance to tell dad how much he means to you.
We celebrated Father’s Day by chatting to some of our incredible Belgravia Leisure Dads. We asked them how they planned on celebrating Father’s Day, how they manage a healthy work-life balance and what they love most about being a Dad.
Meet Scott and family
Scott Vanderheyden is our South West NSW Area Manager and says he manages a healthy work-life balance by staying active and disconnecting from technology whenever it’s family time.
“With an active 16-month-old baby and a golden retriever, there is plenty of opportunities to go for walks, run around the backyard or play at the park. I try as much as I can to ensure that when it’s family time, the phone and laptop are away and I can put 100% of my attention towards my family.”
What are you doing to celebrate this Father’s Day?
“Considering we are in lockdown, a quiet day at home with a coffee and some breaky will be great.”
What do you love most about being a dad?
“The look on my daughter’s face when I come home from work, or I pick her up from daycare, the pure happiness and excitement! I also love experiencing all the ‘firsts’ in her life and helping her learn new things.”
Meet Justin and family
How do you manage a healthy work-life balance?
“I work 10 days on and 4 off. When the kids are not at school or kindy they are home with me at work, I’m lucky enough to spend lots of time with my family. On our 4 days off we go camping or day trips as a family to get out of the park.”
What are you doing to celebrate this Father’s Day?
“I’ll be working but I’m hoping the manager lets me sleep in for a half-hour. I also have my fingers crossed the dump point isn’t blocked first thing!”
What do you love most about being a dad?
“Watching them grow into the beautiful girls they are becoming. My kids are the best, I’m a very proud Dad!”
Meet Ben and family

“We love some family board games all be it there are generally tears at the end of the game.”
What are you doing to celebrate this Father’s Day?
“I’ll have two little butlers looking after me for the day!”
What do you love most about being a dad?
“I love watching the growth and development of Elwood and Scarlett. They learn so fast, hopefully, the right things!”

Tell us about your family
“I’m the proud father of Brant (35), Jarryd (33), father-in-law of Leni (34), and Jarrod (33), and ecstatic Grandpa of Elend (3), Neive (1) and Leah (3 months). Each, along with my truly wonderful wife Lyn and foremost in my mind.”
How do you manage a healthy work-life balance?
“I like to stay regularly connected with family, both face to face when possible or if that’s not possible, (like me with kids and grandkids overseas) connecting online. I stay connected with friends and neighbours, exercise every day, eat well, enjoy a beer, and spend heaps of time with my best mate, Lyn, my wonderful wife.”
What are you doing to celebrate this Father’s Day?
“Family, family, family time, and probably a beer they are likely to give me on the day.”
What do you love most about being a dad?
“Being a dad is an incredible thing, and also being a grandpa is life fulfilling. I highly recommend both.”
