Belgravia Leisure, the new management team of council’s Nambour Aquatic Centre since July 1, are living up to their business vision of connecting the community to leisure by providing programs that are designed to be enjoyed while getting people active, healthy and involved.
Nambour Aquatic Centre, nestled among the trees in Petrie Park and a short walk from the Nambour town centre, features a 50 metre pool with full length grandstand, 25 metre indoor heated pool, and junior/toddler leisure pool, kiosk and amenities block, for all the community to enjoy.
Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said council’s Sunshine Coast Aquatic Plan 2011- 2026 guided the current and future provision of aquatic facilities and services, to ensure the needs of the Sunshine Coast’s diverse communities are met.
“Following an aquatic centre management model review undertaken and endorsed in September 2016, council has tendered for and awarded new leases for seven sites due for lease renewal over the past 18 months,” Cr Rogerson said.
“Council’s rigorous evaluation process assessed each submission based on key criteria and I am pleased to announce a new 10-year lease to manage council’s Nambour Aquatic Centre has been awarded to Belgravia Leisure.”
“We highly regard Belgravia Leisure’s capabilities and proven track record of professionally operating 28 facilities throughout Queensland and a total of 133 sites across Australia and New Zealand.”
“Belgravia Leisure have provided employment to all current centre staff, with the added benefit of training and career development opportunities, to ensure the same great team are delivering the programs for the community.”
Cr Rogerson said Sunshine Coast Council had sought an operator that could add significant value to the facility by investing in the construction of additional facilities in line with the centre’s master plan.
As part of the agreement, Belgravia Leisure will contribute $500,000 in capital upgrade costs to develop an improved wet play / splash zone area with works scheduled to commence by year three of the contract.
“Belgravia Leisure is supportive of this aquatic development in order to offer locals additional leisure opportunities for families,” said Anthony McIntosh, Belgravia Leisure’s General Manager of Operations.
“We are proud of our team’s efforts to transition quickly and effectively and look forward to working with the community to develop highly valued aquatic programs and services.”
A new Nambour Aquatic Centre website will be launching soon.
