Belgravia Leisure General Manager of Health and Safety, Scott Vanderheyden, has been crowned the 2026 national Million Moves Challenge champion, with his efforts helping the Belgravia Leisure team secure second place overall in the nationwide challenge.
With 75% of Australians not meeting recommended physical activity levels, the initiative, powered by Australia’s peak body for the exercise and active health sector, AUSactive, encouraged Australians across the country to build movement into their daily routines.
Belgravia Leisure team members embraced the challenge by walking, running, swimming, cycling, stretching and training their way to a combined 246,509 minutes of movement.
Scott signed up at the beginning of September and made a conscious effort to find opportunities to move throughout each day.
“During those 21 days, I took every opportunity to move as much as possible,” Scott said.
“During the week, I swapped the car for walking my daughter Evie to and from school. I also used a standing desk and walking pad at home, which made it much easier to stay active while working. On the weekends, I made sure I fitted in plenty of exercise.
“I feel great, and being healthy and physically active is something I place a lot of importance on. This challenge has inspired me to keep going and has proven to me that it is possible to move more every day.”
Belgravia Leisure Product Development Manager, Health and Wellbeing, Jayden Cox, said the team’s participation reflected the organisation’s commitment to creating healthier communities.
“At Belgravia Leisure, we believe movement has the power to improve lives and strengthen communities. That’s why we’re proud to support initiatives like the AUSactive Million Moves Challenge, which inspire people to make movement part of everyday life.
“The challenge also aligns with Belgravia Group Chairman and CEO Geoff Lord’s commitment to helping one million children become more physically active,” Jayden said.
“A huge thank you to all Belgravia Leisure team members who got involved. Your efforts were incredible and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together again next year.”
The Million Moves Challenge reinforces Belgravia Leisure’s commitment to encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles for both team members and the communities it serves.
