At Belgravia Leisure, we all take responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe aquatic environment and way of work for our team and our community. We care about the physical and psychological well-being of all people, so consequently, health and safety are non-negotiable priorities. Here are just a few ways that we are keeping you and your community safe at your local aquatic venue:
- Our teams adhere to the ‘Triple A’s for Aquatic Safety’ philosophy: Be Alert, Be Aware and Active. Delivered in dynamic and engaging ways, the Triple A approach ensures that Belgravia aquatic personnel are proactive with preventing incidents, and that we are ready to respond efficiently and effectively should an aquatic safety concern arise.
- At Belgravia Leisure we strive every day to implement the ‘Think Safe, Act Safe, Be Safe’ methodology. This is the cornerstone of our positive, accountable and proactive safety culture that encompasses physical, psychosocial and child safety considerations.
- We are proud that the Belgravia Leisure Safety Management System is accredited to ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental, international organisation that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of products, services, and systems. This is a part of the Belgravia Leisure integrated accreditation whereby we hold certification to ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and ISO 14001 Environmental management Systems.
- Belgravia Leisure teams undergo robust due diligence and audit surrounding all things safety. Each and every venue is audited internally twice a year using the comprehensive Belgravia Auditing App which is then verified by external third-party audit functions.
- Our organisation has endorsed the implementation of oxygen at all venues across Australia and New Zealand, despite this not being an industry requirement. This enhances our comprehensive emergency management measures which include team member training and cardiac defibrillators at every Belgravia Group venue.
- In Australia, Belgravia Leisure is dedicated to ensuring compliance to the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO), a resource maintained and developed by Royal Lifesaving and collaborated on with the National Aquatic Industry Committee. In New Zealand, we are equally dedicated to ensuring compliance with PoolsafeNZ and the Aquatic Facility Guidelines provided by Sport NZ.
- Based on the GSPO and PoolsafeNZ Guidelines, Belgravia Leisure is committed to ensuring venues complete associated Pool Safety Assessments in line with appropriate guidelines on a regular basis. These are completed annually for all-year-round venues and all New Zealand venues, and every two (2) years for seasonal venues, regardless of annual attendances.

- In addition to this, Belgravia Leisure have developed our own set of Aquatic Safety Standards that go beyond industry expectations and set out the minimum standards that all Belgravia Leisure aquatic venues must adhere to. These standards are currently being rolled out across all Australia and New Zealand venues and refer to subjects such as diving safety, school carnivals, hypoxic swimming training, mermaid tails and inclusive equipment support, amongst many others.
- We take a multifaceted risk based approach to ensuring the safety of all children who access our facilities. We have a child safety framework in place which helps to ensure all children are safe and thrive within our facilities. We also have a dedicated child safety coordinator who ensures all venues are compliant with jurisdictional requirements.
- All children who visit our venues have a right to feel and be safe. We are committed to promoting and maintaining a culture that does not permit or tolerate child abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Our priority is to ensure the welfare and safety of every child that has contact with our customers, team members, volunteers and contractors. We are also committed to the cultural safety of First Nations children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ children and children with disabilities and their families.
- We are committed to ensuring that all people who undertake duties on behalf of our organisation from a contractor management perspective are robust and meet all compliance requirements. We have also partnered with Linksafe to ensure a comprehensive pre-qualification process is undertaken along with an induction that details key hazards and risks associated with the venue, including child safety requirements. This live data is readily accessible and used when evacuation is required.
- We have worked hard to improve technology across our venues to enhance communication between team members and further reduce reaction times.
- We have recently updated and clarified parental supervision requirements across various venues – including the development of consistent and clear collateral – and via our owned online platforms.
- Throughout Belgravia Leisure, it is expected that every venue and workplace have an effective and up to date Emergency Management Plan, adequate first aid facilities (including a defibrillator) to effectively manage medical emergencies that may occur and that risks associated with vehicle use are managed.
