At the recent Queensland Short Course State Championships Sam Short won six gold medals including two outstanding swims.

Sam won the Open 800m Free in 7.55.85 and the 1500m Free in 15:11.73, breaking two Queensland records, two Queensland All-Comers records.

Both of these sensational swims have ranked Sam as the second-fastest Australian 15-year-old of all time for the 800 Free Short Course (behind Ian Thorpe who swam 7.50.81 in 1998) and also in the 1500 Free Short Course (behind Christopher Ashwood who swam 15.08.85 in 2007).
