More than 100 young women aged 12–18 across the Yarra Ranges have taken part in the first She Moves campaign to be delivered in the region, helping teen girls discover fun, inclusive and affordable ways to get active.
Designed to make wellness accessible and confidence-building, the Belgravia Leisure led She Moves program brought together 10 local partners and venues, hosting 31 sessions across the region. The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, with participants describing sessions as “amazing,” “really good,” and “super fun!”.
Delivered over four weeks and led by Belgravia Leisure’s Community Engagement Coordinator Kelly Parker, the program offered girls the chance to try everything from yoga, dance and Pilates to soccer, basketball, mindfulness and self-care.
The campaign also celebrated local role models, including former WNBL player and two-time SEABL Champion Sarah Parsons, who coached the basketball clinic at Mt Lilydale Lakers.
“Creating a space where young girls could try something new, connect with others and feel supported was at the heart of this campaign,” Kelly said. “Programs like this are so important because they don’t just promote physical health, they build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging that can have a lasting impact.”
In total, 101 attendees were recorded across activities delivered by Monbulk Aquatic Centre, Yarra Centre, Kindred Warrior, Impact Pilates, The Running Company, Lilydale Montrose United, Healesville Soccer Club, Healesville Swimming Club, Lilydale Tennis Club and Mt Lilydale Lakers Basketball Club.
The success of She Moves has already sparked interest from new community partners for future years, setting the stage for the program’s continued growth and expansion.
Belgravia Leisure would like to acknowledge the support of Access Community Health and Yarra Ranges Council, whose collaboration helped make this first year such a success.
