During most school holidays, kids are often stuck at home or glued to screens, but this year, Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre offered a refreshing change.
In collaboration with the Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council, Liverpool City Council, CORE Community Services and Pickleball NSW, a series of dynamic programs were held at the venue providing participants with a fun and active alternative.
These programs focused on inclusivity, skill development and community engagement, offering participants of all ages an experience with water safety education, an exciting Pickleball Championship and a basketball development program.
“We’re proud to deliver these programs that make sport, education and recreation accessible to everyone,” said Wishy Murimba, Community Engagement Manager at Michael Wenden. “It’s about building skills, confidence and fostering a strong sense of community.”
Water Safety Education

In partnership with Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council and CORE Community Services, vital water safety education sessions were delivered to participants.
These sessions focused on swimming skills, risk awareness and building confidence in and around water. They were extremely important lessons that will contribute to lifelong water safety habits.
Pickleball Championship

Pickleball NSW hosted a high-energy Pickleball Championship, showcasing the sport’s growing popularity. The event was filled with skill, strategy and sportsmanship, creating an exciting atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
Basketball Development Program

Liverpool City Council, Hoops Connect and the Australian International Sports Organisation offered a basketball and volleyball coaching program, focusing on fundamental skill development and teamwork.
Participants had the opportunity to train with experienced coaches, building confidence and improving their abilities in a supportive environment.
The holiday programs not only promoted physical activity but also encouraged connection and personal growth.
“We’re extremely happy with the community’s response to these programs,” Wishy said. “By offering such a wide range of activities, we’ve been able to make a lasting impact and ensure that everyone felt included and engaged.”
“A huge thank you to all our partners for making these programs a success. We’re excited for future collaborations that will continue to inspire and empower communities through sport and recreation,” Wishy concluded.
