As the surge in golf becomes increasingly popular around the country, the need for Community Instructors is ever-present. Little Para Golf Course, located in South Australia, has taken the lead by ensuring its team moves forward with professional development and training whilst filling essential gaps to support the resident PGA Professional.
The Community Golf Instructor course, through Golf Australia, provides accreditation to non-golf professionals, enabling venue managers and its teams to share their love of golf and to help grow the game for all ages and all abilities.
With training completed online, the accreditation has provided essential skills and knowledge to the team at Little Para Golf Course to deliver national participation programs including MyGolf, Get into Golf Women’s clinics, Senior’s Clinics and All Abilities programs. By providing support to the resident PGA Professional, opportunities to extend programs work towards increasing community participation and membership at Little Para Golf Course.
Dave Weights, Jordan Morgan and Emily Hart (pictured above) are now fully accredited Community Instructors at Little Para Golf Course. With accredited Community Instructors, Little Para Golf Course can ensure beginners in the local community have access to a team that encompasses knowledge and commitment to the sport.
As part of the accreditation process, team members have been trained in the following:
- Equipment
- Golf Skills
- Health and Safety
- National Programs
- Recruitment and Retention
- Golf Games and Activities
- Inclusive Coaching and much more
“As community instructors, we aren’t here to replace the PGA Professional but to enhance and add accessibility and inclusion to the programs we offer at Little Para Golf Course. Our passion and commitment to growing the game of golf for our local community is a continuation of what our resident Pro provides,” said Venue Manager Dave Weights.
“We saw a great opportunity and need to expand Junior Programs at the course to work alongside the Golf Pro. This includes accommodating school groups, vacation care programs and Golf Australia Programs, including MyGolf and Get Into Golf for Women, Seniors and All Abilities.
“Golf is a great physical activity for people of all ages and all abilities. By assisting our PGA Professional, we are closing the gap on accessibility for everyone at our venue. Our mission at Little Para Golf Course is to ensure our programs are delivered to the highest standard with a strong community focus,” Dave concluded.
