In an industry where safety is critical, more than 1,800 swim teachers across 113 venues will be trained in new Safe Holds and Support Techniques, as Belgravia Leisure rolls out a standardised approach to safety across its aquatics network over the next three months.
Building on existing training and strong safety practices, the initiative responds to an increasing focus on safety and compliance across the aquatics industry, equipping teachers to confidently and safely support students in the water while reducing risk and strengthening outcomes for both students and team members.
The module has been developed with input from Austswim, Swim Coaches & Teachers Australia and Child Safe Australia, as well as Belgravia’s internal teams including JUMP! Swim Schools, WH&S, Child Safety, Access & Inclusion, Guest Experience, People & Culture, Marketing and Aquatic Leaders.

Belgravia Leisure CEO, Nick Cox, said the rollout reflects the organisation’s focus on creating safe, trusted environments.
“Safety is at the cornerstone of everything we do. As a child safeguarding organisation, we carry a deep responsibility to create safe, trusted environments where students can learn, grow and thrive,” he said.
“This training strengthens that commitment by equipping our swim teachers with the skills and confidence to apply safe, appropriate techniques, while continuing to build a strong culture of safety across our venues.”

The Safe Holds and Support Techniques training is a comprehensive package. It includes a dedicated Lenny e-learning module, supporting resources and documentation, a standardised rollout presentation and a visual and video asset library to guide the application of techniques.
Early engagement has been strong. Almost 100 swim teachers have completed the course within the first week of launch and provided positive feedback on its clarity and practical application.
One swim teacher shared the course was “informative and easy to understand” and another noting the “realistic visuals helped bring clarity to the techniques.”
National Product Development Manager, Cheryl McLennan, said the program was designed with a clear focus on people.
“This work is about more than training; it is about protecting people. Every decision behind this module has been guided by a simple responsibility of ensuring our students are safe and our swim teachers are equipped to make sound, professional judgements in every lesson,” she said.
“Parents place their children in our care, in an environment where safety is everything. This training strengthens that trust by ensuring our teachers are truly confident in how they support every student.”
This rollout marks a step forward in setting clearer expectations for swim teaching, reinforcing Belgravia Leisure’s role in shaping safer practices across the industry.
