Belgravia Leisure has once again reinforced its position as an industry leader in aquatic safety, achieving outstanding results across Australia and far surpassing the national compliance industry average.
A record 102 Pool Safety Assessment (PSA) and Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment (AFSA) assessments were conducted on Belgravia Leisure venues in 2024/25. These assessments delivered an overall safety score of 90.96%, alongside an average Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) compliance score of 92.05%, exceeding the industry compliance mean by a wide berth of 10.6% as reported by the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia.

The company’s commitment and investment to measuring aquatic safety compliance on an annual basis is unmatched, with more than a third, or 37% of all opt-in safety and compliance assessments in the aquatics industry completed by Belgravia Leisure venues.
In a notable achievement, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre in Victoria secured the top position across the Belgravia Leisure network for the second year in a row, with a remarkable average safety and compliance score of 99.86%. Murrumba Downs Swimming Pool, Mill Park Leisure Centre, Knox Leisureworks and Thomastown Recreation Centre closely followed behind, setting the benchmark for safety and compliance across not only Belgravia Leisure, but the entire aquatics sector.
Belgravia Leisure was also recently honoured with the Royal Life Saving NSW/ACT/TAS President’s Award for its contribution to aquatic safety and drowning prevention, further cementing its reputation as an organisation that places safety and compliance at the heart of its operations.
Scott Vanderheyden, General Manager – Health and Safety at Belgravia Leisure, says it takes momentum, commitment and an ‘always on’ approach to maintain such high safety standards across the organisation.
“At Belgravia Leisure, we strive every day to implement the ‘Think Safe, Act Safe, Be Safe’ methodology, which is the cornerstone of our positive, accountable and proactive safety culture.
“Our intensive training programs, mystery guest assessments and cross-regional collaboration have driven continuous improvement and innovation in aquatic risk management this year. With 117 venues scheduled for assessment in 2025/26, we’ve never been more committed to raising the bar for safety and compliance and ensuring safer places to swim for communities across Australia and New Zealand.
“While we are proud of our results, there is always more work to be done. With a strong foundation for continued improvement and innovation in aquatic risk management, we are well positioned to keep elevating safety standards. I’m proud to work for a company that leads the industry in aquatic safety, where health and safety are non-negotiable priorities.”
