More than 4 million Australians played golf last year, according to the 2024/25 Golf Participation Report published by Golf Australia, supported by research from Deakin University and KAP Research. Golf Australia says the milestone makes golf Australia’s most participated and most frequently played adult sport.
The growth is being reflected across Belgravia Leisure golf venues, with Victorian memberships increasing by 12% year on year over the past 12 months, alongside growth in rounds played and driving range visits.
Helping lead the momentum is Jack McDonald, National Golf Programs Manager, whose career journey with Belgravia Leisure began more than eight years ago.
After studying Sports Management at La Trobe University and working at Yarrambat Park Golf Course as a pro shop attendant, Jack discovered a passion for growing participation in golf through community-focused programs and experiences.
Jack joined Keilor Public Golf Course as Assistant Manager before progressing into the Venue Manager role just six months later, leading the venue for more than five years and helping grow memberships by more than 400%.
Now overseeing golf programs nationally, Jack is focused on helping more people discover golf through beginner programs, driving ranges, social formats and inclusive community experiences.
“What excites me most is seeing more people discover golf in a way that feels welcoming, social and accessible,” Jack said.
“We’re seeing more women, families and first-time players engaging with the game than ever before, which is really exciting for the future of golf.”

Jack also helped implement programs at Yarrambat Park Golf Course that won the Victorian Inclusion Initiative of the Year at the 2024 Victorian Golf Industry Awards. He has also helped lead Belgravia Leisure’s Women’s Golf Pathway program, which now has more than 60 women participating across Victoria.
The growth reflects broader momentum across the Belgravia Leisure golf portfolio, including at Geelong Golf Club, which more than doubled membership and increased female participation by over 2,000% in 2024/2025 through an inclusive, community-first approach focused on accessibility and participation.
Jack said the launch of the new Belgravia Golf website, which is currently underway, marks another exciting step in continuing to modernise and grow golf experiences across the portfolio.
“The new website will be a great opportunity to better showcase our venues, programs and the different ways people can get involved in golf,” Jack said.
“Golf doesn’t have to look the way people traditionally expect. There’s a place for everybody in the game.”
