Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th, Belgravia Leisure is proud to announce an official gender pay gap slightly in favour of women, bucking the Australian trend and outperforming the industry.
The gender pay gap is a statistical analysis of the difference in median earnings between women and men in the workforce, whereby for the first time ever, the Government via the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) this week released Gender Pay Gap (GPG) data for almost 5,000 public sector businesses with over 100 employees.
Belgravia Leisure outshone the industry with a remarkable average total renumeration score of minus 4.5% against an industry group comparison of 5.3%.
A negative result indicates woman are paid more than men, and Belgravia Leisure’s result is almost 10% in front of the industry benchmark.

Additionally, when it comes to our median total remuneration gender pay gap, Belgravia Leisure’s result is again outstanding, sitting at 0% against the industry comparison group result of 4.3%.
Belgravia Leisure’s result is a positive one and we are proud of the part we play in taking steps towards tackling gender inequality when it comes to financial renumeration, however there is still a long way to go as a nation.
The publicly released data revealed a concerning 21.7% gender pay gap across Australia, where women only earn 78 cents for every dollar earned by a man. Additionally, some industries reporting a gap much wider than this whereby only 30% of employers have a median gender pay gap between the target range of 15% and +5%.
Belgravia Leisure CEO Nick Cox hopes that this publicly released data will help make workplaces across the country fairer.
“I’m extremely proud of this result, particularly in the lead up to International Women’s Day, and it has not been by accident as we have long paid attention to this matter as we have grown as a business. Now is not the time to be complacent however, whereby we will continue to reflect on how we can improve to ensure we continue to have happy and engaged staff who are highly skilled, fairly renumerated and passionate to connect people to leisure.
“I certainly encourage other Australian businesses to reflect on their gender pay gap results, whatever they may be, to ascertain how they too can make their workplace a more fair, equitable and inclusive environment.”
Cox continued, “With a workforce comprised of 64% females, we certainly understand the importance of not only renumerating women fairly, but also encouraging women in our business to progress into leadership and upper management roles. With this in mind, I have confidence that females at all levels of experience who are seeking employment in the leisure industry may consider Belgravia Leisure as an employer of choice”.
Here at Belgravia Leisure we place a huge priority on creating pathways to employment opportunities for all staff, no matter their gender. We want everyone to feel valued and are committed to providing workplaces and sites free of all forms of discrimination, including gender pay inequality.
