When the cancellation of Byron Bay Bluesfest left a gap in the region’s event calendar, the team at First Sun Holiday Park took the opportunity to bring people together through music and community connection.
What began as a handful of local music performances at the park soon evolved into a series of popular live music evenings, helping maintain an atmosphere many visitors associate with Byron Bay’s festival season.
For more than three decades, Bluesfest has been one of Byron Bay’s most iconic events, attracting music lovers from across Australia and around the world. The annual festival has played a significant role in the region’s tourism economy, filling accommodation, supporting local businesses and contributing to the vibrant cultural atmosphere Byron Bay is known for.

“For many guests at the park, their holiday stay became much more than a place to sleep, gathering with fellow travellers, enjoying live music and creating memories that felt distinctly local,” said Park Manager Jacynta Donald.
“Seeing guests sitting together, meeting new people and enjoying live music just steps from their accommodation was really special. “It reminded us that we’re not just providing a place to stay, we’re helping create experiences and memories that become part of someone’s holiday.”
The park had already started working with local musicians after connecting with artists through social media. Following the Bluesfest cancellation, those relationships grew, with more performers eager to get involved and share their music with guests.
A key partner in bringing the events to life was Kombi Keg Byron Bay, a locally owned mobile beverage service operating from a restored vintage Kombi van. Owner Chris supported many of the performances and helped connect the park with local musicians.

Artists including Kane Muir, Jordy Quinn, Micka Scene, Ino Pio, Harry Nicols, Adzi and D’veena performed throughout the season, transforming ordinary evenings into vibrant social gatherings.
“Many of our guests return to Byron Bay year after year because they love the atmosphere, the people and the music,” Jacynta said.
“While we couldn’t replace Bluesfest, we could create moments that captured some of that same spirit. The feedback from guests showed just how much those experiences meant to them.”
What started as a response to an unexpected challenge became one of the season’s standout successes, proving that sometimes they are the ones you never planned for.
