No CV, no stress! That was the message Belgravia Leisure brought to this year’s Be Deadly Jobs expo – an inspiring event at the Aboriginal Advancement League – that connected community, employers and job seekers in a vibrant and welcoming space.
Emma Lowe, Belgravia Leisure’s National Access & Inclusion Coordinator (pictured right) and Jaye Hansford, MOVE’s Community Engagement Coordinator (pictured left), attended with the purpose of promoting pathways to employment, building connections and engaging with underrepresented groups. This approach aligns strongly with Belgravia Leisure’s Social Inclusion Policy, Reconciliation Action Plan and Workforce Diversification Strategy.

The team had many meaningful conversations with prospective employees, with a number engaging with the online expression of interest form and others taking contact details for follow-up.
Jaye reflected on the experience, saying:
“Being part of the Be Deadly Jobs Expo was such an important opportunity to listen, connect and open doors for community members seeking meaningful employment.
At Belgravia Leisure, we know that traditional recruitment processes can sometimes feel daunting, so our focus is on breaking down those barriers, whether that’s by saying no CV, no stress, or by providing free training and ongoing support. We’re committed to creating a workforce that truly reflects the communities we serve and events like this help us take real steps towards that goal.”
One job seeker shared:
“I never thought I’d find a workplace that would make it this easy to apply. Just knowing I don’t need a resume, which is very stressful and can start with support makes me feel like I can give it a go.”
Another added:
“I didn’t realise leisure centres had so many different job options. I’d love to start as a casual, but working my way into a community role or even group fitness is something I’m really interested in.”
The team observed strong interest from attendees of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Belgravia Leisure’s tailored approach, including no resume required, free gym membership and clear career progression pathways, proved to be a standout.
These elements help remove barriers that traditional recruitment often create, especially for underrepresented groups. Without them, many individuals simply don’t engage and we risk missing out on incredible talent and lived experience.
Belgravia Leisure extends heartfelt thanks to Opendoor, with a special shout-out to Mark and the Aboriginal Advancement League for their warm welcome and hospitality. Events like this are a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusive employment practices and the role leisure centres can play in fostering social connection, wellbeing and opportunity.
