Lake Colac Holiday Park (LCHP) has turned everyday containers into more than $1,800 of community support, proving that small actions can spark big change. Through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, guests and team members have helped divert over 200 wheelie bins worth of recyclables from landfill, all while raising funds for local groups.
Amanda Pugh, Relief Park Manager at LCHP and Colac Rotarian, leads the effort with support from LCHP Park Manager, Darren Palmer.
“We believe every container counts,” said Amanda. “This initiative helps us reduce waste and give back to the people who make Colac special.”
The park has embraced a simple yet transformative initiative: guests and team members drop eligible cans, bottles and containers into collection bins, allowing them to easily contribute, knowing they’ll be turned into funds for use in the local community.
The 10-cent refunds go straight to groups like Colac Rotary and the Colac Community Hub, funding projects that strengthen the community while proving that small actions can deliver big results for the Colac Otway region.

The benefits go beyond fundraising. By diverting recyclables from landfills, the park helps protect local flora and fauna and maintain the natural beauty of Lake Colac and the Otways. The park even has a resident goose, Miss Mavis who surprises and welcomes guests in the front office.
Darren Luscombe, Head of Leased Parks at Belgravia Pro added:
“Travellers want authentic, eco-conscious experiences. Sustainability is a cornerstone of our model because it appeals to guests and drives long-term efficiency.”
Other Belgravia Pro venues such as Ocean Beach Tourist Park have joined the movement – utilising Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme to stop almost 35,000 containers from ending up in landfill whilst at the same time raising around $3,500 for local charities in 2025.
Alexia Morgan, General Manager of Environment and Sustainability, who drives Belgravia Leisure’s five-year sustainability plan said:
“One of our five sustainability objectives as highlighted in our five-year plan is to reduce waste to landfill. This initiative by Lake Colac directly supports this objective, preserving our natural surroundings.”
“Being environmentally responsible makes good business sense: it matters to our members and guests, communities, partners and teams,” Alexia continued.

You can help too: whether you’re staying at the park or just passing through, drop your eligible containers into LCHP collection bins and be part of this positive change. Every bottle or can donated helps reduce waste, beautify shared spaces and support the incredible work of local community groups.
