Yass Valley Caravan Park was proud to host Alan Thorpe for a well-deserved rest during his inspiring journey to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health.
Alan walked from Ballarat to Canberra – a remarkable 750 km trek – to shine a light on this important cause.
This marks Alan’s fourth long-distance walk dedicated to men’s mental health, bringing his total fundraising efforts to an impressive $78,000. His latest walk is his longest yet.
On November 19, International Men’s Day, Alan reached Parliament House in Canberra to participate in the “2,500 Too Many” project, an initiative by the Zero Suicide program. The powerful display featured 2,500 empty pairs of shoes, symbolizing the men and boys lost to suicide in the past year.
Alan commented: “I have experienced some severe leg pain from wear and tear on the road but mentally, I’m on top of the world. My partner Kelly trails behind me in the support van, which makes such a difference.”

He mentioned that as he passed through towns, cars would honk or stop him to chat, sparking life-changing conversation.
Yass Valley Caravan Park’s Park Manager Tracey Balanzategui said of Alan’s visit:
“We are honoured to have hosted Alan during his cross-state journey, for such an important cause. Being just an hour from Canberra, our park allowed him some much-needed reprieve.”
