When Belgravia Leisure took over Dalby Aquatic Centre, the team wanted to create something simple that could bring people together, no matter their age or ability. That idea became the weekly Walking in Water program, a gentle class built around movement, conversation and the chance to meet new people for the cost of entry.
The class led by Access and Inclusion Officer Amber says, “Our community members who join us for our weekly Walking in Water class come for the exercise but often stay for the connections that are built.”

After the session, the group heads poolside for a coffee and a sweet treat thanks to a partnership with the local bakery.
A slice or cake is offered at a discounted price, which means participants can enjoy a coffee and cake for just $2.50. Team members often join in, turning the morning into a welcoming community catch up.

“For us, community is at the heart of everything we do,” says Venue Manager Jodie Jackson. “This little weekly ritual has become a highlight for so many. People leave feeling lighter and more connected.”
In a world where so much of our time is spent behind screens, this simple weekly ritual gives everyone a chance to slow down, step away from the noise and reconnect with real people.
At Dalby Aquatic Centre, the Walking in Water program is a reminder of how important face-to-face connection and real community moments truly are.
