After two decades in the beauty and wellness industry, Stacey Preston, Spa Operations Manager at Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa is helping shape the future of one of Victoria’s most iconic wellness destinations, whilst at the same time inspiring the next generation of beauty professionals.
When Stacey completed her beauty therapy qualification 20 years ago, she never imagined it would open doors to business ownership, leadership opportunities and a career at the forefront of Australia’s growing wellness sector.
Recently, Stacey shared her career journey at the Beauty, But Make it Business Regional Event in Ballarat, joining a panel of industry experts to discuss careers, leadership and business growth in the beauty industry.
Presented by The Radiance Collective at The Goods Shed Events Hall, the event is one of regional Victoria’s leading professional development opportunities for beauty professionals, bringing together industry leaders, business owners and emerging talent.
The Hepburn Spa team were also invited to attend the event, giving them the opportunity to connect with others in the industry, learn and be inspired.

Building a career in wellness
For Stacey, the journey to leading the spa’s operations began with hands-on experience at a range of salons and spas, which has led to developing systems and finding ways to improve efficiencies in the business.
Joining Belgravia Leisure in November 2022 as a Spa Coordinator, Stacey progressed through the roles of Assistant Spa Manager and Spa Operations Manager. In June 2025, she also became Operations Manager for the retail wellness brand Highlander.
Providing a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation

Known for its award-winning, mineral-rich waters and bespoke wellness packages since 1895, Hepburn has long been a favourite for guests seeking a restorative escape in Victoria’s renowned spa country.
Stacey has led various initiatives with Hepburn, including rebuilding and retaining a strong spa team, revamping the spa treatment menu and designing and implementing the Apothecary experience.
“When I first joined the team, we had eight therapists. Over the past three and a half years, despite six weeks of closure for essential works, we have grown that team to 28 while also building a very strong culture of retention, support and engagement.
“I’m proud of the time, effort and care we have invested in our people and the culture we have created, leading to positive outcomes,” Stacey said.
Driving world-class wellness experiences at Hepburn
Designed to extend the wellness journey beyond a guest’s visit, the Apothecary experience allows guests to create their own bath soaks and body scrubs, helping them continue their wellness journey at home.
“It’s been rewarding introducing new treatments and services while building and supporting a strong team to succeed. I’m grateful for the opportunities Hepburn has given me to grow and develop,” Stacey added.
At the Beauty, But Make it Business Regional Event, the Hepburn team also showcased elements of the Apothecary experience, giving attendees a firsthand look at one of the venue’s unique wellness offerings.

Looking ahead
Stacey added that she is passionate about creating new wellness experiences and would love to explore introducing retreats in the future, combining spa, wellness and overall wellbeing in a more immersive guest experience.
“I’ve always loved the combination of creating a great experience for guests while also looking at how a business can continue to grow and improve.
“Ultimately, I’d love to continue developing my leadership skills while contributing to the growth and future direction of Belgravia Leisure and Hepburn’s wellness offering,” Stacey concluded.
Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa forms part of Belgravia Leisure’s broader wellness portfolio, which also includes New Zealand wellness destinations Wai Ariki Hot Springs & Spa and Kaipātiki Hot Springs.
