Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre has been named Watch Around Water Centre of the Year at the 2026 South Australian Aquatics Conference & Awards, recognising the venue’s commitment to aquatic safety, education and community engagement.
The South Australian award follows another significant achievement for Summit, which has also been named a finalist in the Leisure Centre of the Year category at the AUSActive National Awards on 11 September.
Led by Surf Life Saving SA, Royal Life Saving SA and AustSwim SA and sponsored by Belgravia Leisure, the annual industry event allowed aquatic professionals from across the state to share insights and explore the future of the industry under this year’s theme, The Future Starts With Us.
AUSActive’s National Awards aim to shine a spotlight on individuals and businesses demonstrating exceptional leadership, talent and excellence in the fitness industry.
Summit’s recognitions highlight the work of the team to create a safe and supportive environment, where people of all ages can enjoy the water with confidence.
A team effort with widespread impact
For Nathan Hart, Venue Manager at the Summit, the award reflects the commitment, care and professionalism of the entire team.
“We were absolutely thrilled to receive the Watch Around Water Centre of the Year Award,” he said.
“Our lifeguards, Duty Managers, GOswim teachers, operations and guest experience team all play an important role in helping keep our community safe.
“A special congratulations goes to Mag Tsui and the operations team, Katie Thurlby, Peyton Daniels and the entire GOswim team, as well as Kerrie Osborne and our Guest Experience team who work tirelessly to educate and engage members and visitors about water safety.”
Nathan added that the award validates years of work focused on establishing strong systems, education and operational standards.
“The culture we have worked hard to put in place ensures everyone who enters our venue is supported. While there is always more we can do, this award is fantastic proof the hard work is paying off and we are moving in the right direction.”
The conference, held at Glenelg Golf Club, featured keynote presentations, industry discussions and networking opportunities focused on strengthening the future of aquatics across the state.
Among the keynote speakers were Australian springboard diver Sam Fricker and professional surfer Mark Mathews, who shared insights on resilience, leadership, social media presence and personal growth.
National recognition for the Summit continues
Nathan said to be named a Leisure Centre of the Year finalist at the upcoming AUSActive National Awards is an honour.
“Being recognised alongside some of the best venues in Australia is incredibly rewarding. It reinforces the passion our team brings every day and our commitment to creating a venue that supports health, wellbeing, safety and connection for our community.”
The AUSActive Awards establish benchmarks for industry excellence while showcasing organisations delivering exceptional customer experiences and innovative programs that strengthen community participation.
