When Rachael Maddock, a courageous member at Yawa Aquatic Centre crossed the ultra-marathon finish line this July, she raised more than $6,000 for the Australian child protection charity Bravehearts, supporting its mission to create safer futures for children and families across Australia.
The demanding Bravehearts 777 Marathon is a seven-day challenge involving seven half marathons across seven states and territories, with Rachael running from Perth through to the Gold Coast Marathon.
Supporting safer futures for children
Bravehearts is an Australian child protection organisation dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. Rachael’s campaign has helped to fund vital education, counselling and advocacy services that protect and empower young people.
“I entered the Bravehearts 777 challenge not knowing if my body would be able to hold up with the huge amount of running I’d be completing over the seven days but knowing I’m doing it for the kids helped me cross the finish line,” Rachael said.
