For those who experience limited or no sight, golf might seem an unlikely sport. However, on a sunny day in Geelong, Blind Golf Victoria’s “Come and Try Day” gave 17 participants the chance to feel the joy of hitting the fairway.
In partnership with Dan Materazzo, Belgravia Leisure, Belgravia Foundation, Golf Australia, and Leisure Networks, Blind Golf Victoria delivered a free clinic designed specifically for individuals with vision loss. With the support of skilled volunteers and coaches, participants learned the fundamentals of putting and driving, with all equipment provided to ensure a fully accessible experience.

Families were also welcomed with open arms, with many parents and siblings joining in the fun. Light lunch and refreshments kept everyone energised, while transport support made sure no one was left out. The event was not just about golf, but about building inclusive connections through community.

“We were honoured to share our love for golf with such an incredible group,” said Geelong Golf Club Venue Manager, Paul Christie.
“We are passionate about providing access to golf for people of all ages and abilities at Geelong Golf Club and we’re looking forward to seeing this new partnership thrive into the future.”
With Blind Golf Victoria’s continued efforts, more opportunities to participate in accessible, inclusive golf events are on the horizon at Geelong Golf Club and Belgravia Leisure’s golf venues across Victoria.
